Looking to the Lord for Wisdom

Sunday, March 12th, 2006
Jam 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

The Lord may give a person a strong mind, a good intellect, and the opportunity to learn many things. Even with these gifts, it is still so necessary to receive insight from the Lord, especially if one is to rightly understand complicated issues. A person may study an issue thoroughly, and puzzle the ins and outs of it. Unless the Lord bless the effort, it will prove futile.

It seems to me that an initial step towards attaining wisdom is recognizing that one does not possess wisdom in and of oneself. One must see that she lacks wisdom. Next, one must apply to the Lord, in faith, for this wisdom.

1Jo 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The Lord will teach us what we need to know, as we go to Him in faith, seeking wisdom of Him. The issues before us may be daunting, but the Lord will give us the wisdom to honor Him in our decisions, as we depend upon Him.
