Psalm 127

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

This reminds me of a stylized Family Tree, which seemed a suitable illustration for my latest posting of Psalm 128, but I couldn’t quite figure out how to add the clip art from Word when I was editing the post, so . . . Here you have Psalm 127 from the Scottish Metrical Psalter, instead. I think the family tree idea is still suitable (see verses 3 – 5):

1 Except the Lord do build the house, the builders lose their pain:
Except the Lord the city keep, the watchmen watch in vain.
2 ‘Tis vain for you to rise betimes, or late from rest to keep,
To feed on sorrows’ bread; so gives he his beloved sleep.
3 Lo, children are God’s heritage, the womb’s fruit his reward.
4 The sons of youth as arrows are, for strong men’s hands prepar’d.
5 O happy is the man that hath his quiver fill’d with those;
They unashamed in the gate shall speak unto their foes.

Psalm 128

First, from the King James version of the Bible:

1 Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.
2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.
3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.
4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.
5 The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.
6 Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.

Next, from The Psalms of David in Metre, according to the version approved by the Church of Scotland and appointed to be used in worship:

1 Bless’d is each one that fears the Lord, and walketh in his ways;
2 For of thy labour thou shalt eat, and happy be always.
3 Thy wife shall as a fruitful vine by thy house’ sides be found:
Thy children like to olive-plants about thy table round.
4 Behold, the man that fears the Lord, thus blessed shall he be.
5 The Lord shall out of Sion give his blessing unto thee:
Thou shalt Jerus’lem’s good behold whilst thou on earth dost dwell.
6 Thou shalt thy children’s children see, and peace on Israel.

Some Time Back, Then Back to the Present

Hmm . . . How long ago was this picture taken? Was it two years ago? Three? You girls will have to remind me. Here we see Lydia, Kayla and Rebecca.

Here is a current picture of a mischievous-looking Rebecca, a calm and contemplative-Kayla and a sweetie-pie Lydia.

I thank the Lord for these dear ones, who add spice to my life. (Dear family not pictured on today’s blog: I love you, too! 🙂 )
