My Read-ability Rating

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

This rating is a compliment IF it means that my posts are understandable, but I will be sad if it means that my vocabulary and sentence structure are deficient. Well, without further ado, I present you with this blog’s rating:

Perhaps posting some Haiku makes my blog more “intellectual”, because I have now been upgraded to a higher reading level!

Cuteness remembered

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

I was just chatting with my daughter Laura, the mother of our first grandson. She was reminding me of some of the cute things the children (herself included) used to say. Do any of these sound familiar to any of you moms (and grammas)?

One son used to speak of amillows (animals).

When my husband was building our house, the girls got very excited when he put up the sheep rock (sheet rock). It’s possible that they still call that construction material by that name!

We live out in the country, where you sometimes hear the coyotes howling at night. Did you know that some little girls are quite afraid of cow outies?

Laura also wants you to know about a song I made up (a very lyrically-challenged song) that went like this:

Button belly, belly button

Button of the belly of the sweet little boy (girl)

Belly button, button belly

Button of the belly of the sweet little boy (girl)

This was sung in a cheerful, lullaby-ish sort of way to soothe the grumpy young owner of the belly button in question. So there you have it: Some remembrances to embarrass the children AND the mommy.
