Waiting

What a strange time this is, with Rick and three of the children away in Inverness, California, and just Debra and me at home. I realize that many of you do perfectly well in a small family, or even solo, but I am feeling like a fish out of water!

The usual work that MUST be done is decreased or absent. You would think I would be pounding out the blog posts, or composing some little ditties, but, No! I almost feel like a bug buzzing around in circles, busy going no where. 🙁

Let’s see; what have I been doing?

I have been catching up on reading blogs and various things on the Internet. This is a good thing, and keeps me in touch with friends and family. I also spent way too much time playing an online version of Scrabble , waiting for . . . I don’t know what!

Yesterday I also spent some time before bed reading an entertaining book by Georgette Heyer, Regency Buck, a funny book full of character studies in the spirit of Jane Austen. I found myself chuckling time and again at the mix ups that occur when one is too hasty in forming opinions of others. Just read the book and see. 🙂

Debra and I have been enjoying the lovely summer weather, taking the old doggie for walks. I’m undecided (which seems to be my current state of mind), but perhaps Deb and I will go to the Northwest Washington Fair today. I am scheduled to work in a food booth at the Fair on Wednesday and Thursday. Of course Deb doesn’t want to go around all alone while I work, so this is probably what we’ll do today.

I spent a lot of fruitless time yesterday trying to find out (without actually going to the Fair!) if Kayla had won a prize for the painting she submitted in the adult, non-professional class. My friend Amy told me this morning that Yes! Kayla did have a blue ribbon by her painting, and a nice review written by the judges. Kayla will have to wait until Friday to see the results for herself, since that’s when she has time off from work and will go to the Fair with friends.

Debra and I went to the doctor yesterday for her annual physical, and were informed that she has some sort of problem going on with her thyroid. For those of you who are savvy about such things (This does not include me.), she has low TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) yet high 3T4 (T4 is thyroxine and T3 is triiodothyro-nine). This suggests hyperthyroidism. The doctor scheduled Deb for a scan of her thyroid on Monday, so that’s where she and I will be spending quite a bit of time this coming Monday. Though I don’t like the uncertainty of not knowing what’s going on, I’m thankful the doctor was careful and thorough in his exam. So, I’m also busy waiting for Monday. 😛

I’m thankful for another beautiful day to be alive. Deb and I are doing fine. My conscience is feeling guilty about not being more productive, but maybe I’ll just say that Deb and I are “on vacation”, too, in our quiet, little way.

I’ll let you know how the thyroid scan goes. I think we’re in for a learning experience, which is a good thing. Some puzzle pieces are dropping into place.

Have a great day, and do comment if you are a thyroid expert, or efficiency expert, or just feel like saying, “Hello!” 🙂
