Sunny Day

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

This morning I awoke to see a hard frost, ice crystals sparkling on the lawn. Later on today, though, it’s supposed to get as warm as 55-60 degrees. The sun is shining. The thick cloud cover and drizzling rain which we have typically been experiencing are absent today.

With this cheery prospect before me, I would ordinarily be energized to action, chomping at the bit to get everything under the sun done. At this point though, I’m just well enough to be up for a bit before crawling back under my cozy covers, perhaps to read a bit before dozing off.

Daughter Rebecca told me she will take care of baking a batch of whole wheat bread for the family. She and I can talk about a meal to be prepared later as well. I know she and Lydia will keep the laundry going. My husband has partially recovered from this flu, so I know he will be working, probably outside, on some interesting project or another.

I’m disappointed. I really thought I would get off scott-free this time, since I stayed well for the longest time. Even in the midst of the disappointment, though, I’m thankful. I have a warm, clean, cozy home in which to recuperate. I have my choice of healing hot drinks and warming broths to soothe and strengthen my ailing body. I have interesting books to inform and divert me. As I mentioned above, I have my dear family to carry on with the work of the home.

I hope that you, dear reader, are well, and that you, too, can find much for which to be thankful in the midst of life’s vicissitudes.
