Honest Scrap Award

A couple weeks ago Linda at Remote Treechanger gave me the HONEST SCRAP award. Thank you so much, Linda!

To keep this award, I must complete the following:

1) Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award
2) Share 10 honest things about myself
3) Present this award to 7 others whose blogs I find brilliant in content and/or design or those that have encouraged me
4) Tell those 7 people they have been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving it.


Here are 10 honest things about me:

  • I greatly enjoyed being stay-at-home mom to our nine children.
  • Currently, I get enjoyment and satisfaction from being a para educator (“teacher’s helper”) at our local middle school, which means grades 6, 7 and 8.
  • My current favorite authors are Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer.
  • I’m fascinated by nutrition and health topics.
  • I have made peace with my limitations. When I get tired, I can rest or play, without a guilty conscience.
  • It is easy for me to stay online for a long time.
  • One of my favorite things is going out for a really good coffee with my daughters.
  • I would rather be kind and useful than brilliant.
  • I can be very ditzy at times. Once I worried that I hadn’t gotten daughter Kayla a birthday present, and couldn’t remember, even as she was opening it, what it was. I hope this doesn’t bode ill for the future!
  • I don’t easily “make friends” with machines. I especially shrink from driving someone else’s car.

  • I’ve never traveled by railroad, though I would like to do so.
  • I’ve never smoked a cigarette. I think all the smoke bothered me when I was growing up, so I just never wanted to try it.
  • I have never traveled to the East Coast of the U.S. or to the South.
  • I have never lived where there are hurricanes or tornadoes.
  • I haven’t been to a spa (yet)!

20 Of My Favorite Things

1. Color- the many shades of green I see outside my window
2. Dessert- freshly baked apple dumplings
3. Smell- the perfumes Pretty and Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden
4. Flower- sunflower
5. Animal- cats AND dogs, I just can’t decide on a favorite
6. Month- each month, as it comes, is my favorite. I enjoy seasonal variety.
7. Beverage- a freshly brewed cup of coffee
8. Pair of shoes- Well, I have a favorite new shoe store, Sole Obsession, because they carry my large size in feminine styles! Happy Day!
9. Snack- sliced Fuji apple
10. Song- anything sung by Eva Cassidy
11. Book- the Bible

12. Fruit- apple, if it is crisp and tart
13. Hairstyle- easy care, not flat against my head
14. Piece of clothing- anything comfortable, yet not sloppy-looking fits the bill
15. Store to clothes shop-
Target and Walmart
16. Season- autumn
17. Hobby- going out with my children
18. Thing to collect- memories
19. Movie- I’m looking forward to the new Night in the Museum movie
20. Restaurant- a local restaurant called The North Fork

Next, I was dissatisfied with the posts I finally attempted. Double Thursday 13 – A to Z Meme

Today for Thursday 13, I’m doing the A to Z Meme
which I saw over at my friend Storyteller’s Small Reflections blog a while back. I guess you could call this Thursday 13 times 2. If you play, too, will you please let me know so I can visit you to see your answers?

Attached or single? I am attached, having been married to my dear husband for 26 years.

Best Friend? My husband is my best friend. At this season in my life I am also thankful for many dear friends, both in the real and virtual world. Just had to say.

Cake or Pie?
Any apple dessert: apple crisp, apple pie, fresh apple cake, apple dumplings, baked apples, apfel streudel.

Day of Choice? The Lord’s Day, Sunday, when I have the privilege of hearing God’s Word expounded, and enjoy fellowship with the saints.

Essential Item? Toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss

Flavor of ice cream? Vanilla with chocolate syrup, or better yet with hot fudge sauce!

Gummy Bears or Worms? Neither, thank you. No jelly beans (near relatives of the disliked bears and worms) either

Hometown? Originally I’m a desert girl, from Phoenix, Arizona, but have called the lovely Pacific Northwest home for far more years

Indulgences? One piece of good chocolate daily

January or July? I can’t really decide. Cozy inside times when it’s blustery outside, and leisurely, sun-filled days are both the best

Kids? Nine children, three sons and six daughters. Life is quiet now, with only four still young enough to live at home.

Last Movie I saw in a Theatre? Wall-e. I loved it. I cried. There are deep truths hidden in that animated film.

Middle Name? Marie, after my paternal grandmother, Florence Marie

Number of Siblings? Three brothers and one sister. I am an oldest child.

Oranges or Apples? Apples, of course (see previous pie/cake question)

Phobia or Fear? Fear of heights

Quote? 1 Corinthians 13, The Love Chapter in the Bible. I need frequent reminders of what love thinks, says and does, so refer to this often.

Reason to Smile? I am privileged to see our two grandchildren more often now that our daughter and son-in-law have moved to town!

Season? Autumn. Search “autumn” or “fall” on my blog. You may find a few posts.

Unknown fact about me? I spent my days backpacking and sewing embroidered peasant blouses during the time one would usually go to college.

Vegetarian? Once upon a time, but wasn’t wise about it, so suffered some nutritional deficiencies. I am currently an omnivore, thankful for sufficient food for nourishment and enjoyment.

Xrays or Ultrasound? Both useful, for various things; have had both, accompanied with excellent medical care.

Your favorite food? Freshly baked Honey Whole Wheat Bread with a bit of butter. Search my blog and you’ll find the recipe, if you’re interested.

Zodiac? Not something I follow
