For this day’s blessings

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

For this day’s blessings,

I thank Thee, O my Father.

I heard Thy Word preached,

Worshiped Thee with Thy people,

Received Thy gracious blessing.

This new week awaits

With duties and challenges.

No need to worry:

God will give sufficient grace

To serve Him with thanksgiving.

Ten on Tuesday and the Giving Thanks Challenge

Ten on Tuesday and the Giving Thanks Challenge
can both be covered by this post, in which I list yet ten MORE things for which I am thankful!

  1. I’m thankful for the ready availability of medical care and medicine (in our country), when needed. Today I took Rebecca to the doctor because her throat has been so sore that she hasn’t been able to eat much. Turns out the old tonsils are swollen, pussy, etc. Poor kiddo!

  2. I’m thankful, too, for home remedies that help sore throats, such as gargling with warm salt water and drinking soothing hot tea. Our doctor has the good sense to recommend those things, in addition to prescribing medicines when necessary.

  3. I’m thankful that I don’t have labrynthitis, which is going around the staff at school. I laughed when someone first mentioned this sickness, thinking it meant the tendency to get lost in mazes.

  4. I’m thankful that our daughter and her children are staying healthy, even though the rest of us aren’t. It’s just so sad when really little ones get sick.
  5. I’m thankful for public libraries, which provide ready access to plenty of good books. I’m reminded of this blessing because we ducked quickly into the library to replenish Reb’s stack of books to keep her occupied during this ‘down’ time.

  6. I’m thankful to be ‘on the mend’, well enough to care for my family.
  7. Loving autumn as I do, I just have to mention that I’m thankful for a temperate, blue-skied day today. There’s just nothing like that refreshing autumn crispness in the air!
  8. I’m thankful for excellent quality coffee beans, available at a reasonable price.
  9. I’m thankful for Brown Sugar Cinnamon Macchiatos, especially the way they are made at Woods Coffee.

  10. I’m thankful for the privilege to come to God as my Heavenly Father, through the mediation of the Lord Jesus Christ, casting all my concerns upon Him, knowing that He cares for me.

Giving Thanks Challenge

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

I found out about this timely Thanksgiving challenge over at my friend Storyteller’s Sacred Ruminations blog. She introduced her readers to Leah of South Breeze Farm, who is hosting the second annual Giving Thanks Challenge.

If I had signed up at the beginning of the month, I would have listed daily something for which I am thankful. Well, I do love calling to mind the many blessings for which I want to remember to be thankful, so I’ll start now.

My November 13th post was a list of 13 Things For Which I Am Thankful.

Here are some more things for which I am thankful today:

  • Even when we are ill (which some of us in our family are today) we have a clean, warm home in which to rest, nourishing food and soothing hot drinks to move us on the road to recovery.
  • Our discussions in Bible study before church. They are lively, helpful and edifying.
  • Today it wasn’t raining. I AM thankful for the rain, too, but blue skies are a cheering sight.
  • Gasoline prices are going down!
  • Our children love to learn, and are doing well in school.
  • Soccer season and football season are over, so the children don’t have to practice and compete in the chill and rain.
  • I must say again, I am SO THANKFUL for the faithful preaching of God’s Word.
  • I’m thankful for true friendship.
  • Our pets are a blessing, too, in the affection and entertainment that they afford.
  • I am thankful TO the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth, and Redeemer of His people, for Who He is, and for all these other blessings that I listed!

Now it’s time for a quick walk before returning to church this evening, so Adieu!
