The children were SO DISAPPOINTED when they woke up this morning to melting snow and falling rain. They had so hoped for a snow day. It is approximately twenty degrees warmer today than it was yesterday. The thermometer outside the study window reads 46°, proof-positive that this snow is on the way out. Now, when I check the weather online, I see that we have a high wind advisory. If the high winds materialize we will most likely lose power, due to the fact that this is such a forested area, most of the power lines are above ground, and some of the trees that bite the dust inevitably land on the wires.
Well, I feel more like a weather reporter today than a thoughtful blogger, but this was a big deal in our home this morning, so it is what I’m thinking about.

I’m planning on doing Thankful Thursday this week, but I could start with a few things this morning, which have a bit to do with the weather we’re experiencing. I am thankful for:
- the family being (relatively)well
- our warm home, even when the power goes off, thanks to a good wood-burning stove and plenty of wood
- my husband has dependable work, and the health and strength to do his work
- we have abundant, nourishing food to eat, and the health to be able to eat it
- my husband is able to work from home, rather than out in the inclement weather, as he did for so many years
- we enjoy spending time together as a family, talking and playing games, even when we don’t have power to run our electronics
- we have many good books to read, right here in our home, should said power be interrupted
- being forced to stay home from church on Sunday due to the snow and extreme (for here) cold, reiterated for all of us how much we value our church and our Christian brothers and sisters there
There my list must stop, as I need to get dressed for work and be off, through the slush, to help sixth graders understand their math.
What a great list of blessings! My kids, too, were very disappointed to find the snow slushy and melting in the rain this morning. We had such a busy weekend that I told them we could go sledding one afternoon this week–I guess I didn’t plan for a shift in weather!
Thank you for your lovely comment on my “Good News” blog post. Isn’t our God amazing?
Thanks, Katrina, for your comment.
Yes, I thank the Lord for His blessings, though so often I forget to notice and be thankful.
