Tonight, after a busy run-around kind of day, we enjoyed a late dinner of barbecued burgers. This morning I made homemade hamburger buns, but by the time Rick and I got home this evening, there weren’t enough buns left for dinner, so Kayla dashed to the grocery store to pick up some more.
So, here is the absolutely most delicious burger recipe I’ve encountered:
BARBECUED BURGERS (Recipe of Rhoda Troyer, published in Backyard Living Collector’s Edition, 2005)
2 eggs, beaten
2/3 cup quick-cooking oats
1 teaspoon garlic salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
3 to 3 ½ pounds ground beef
½ cup homemade sweet barbeque sauce
Combine all ingredients and shape into 12 to 14 hamburger patties. Grill, covered over medium heat for 6 to 8 minutes on each side or until meat thermometer reads 160 degrees, basting with barbeque sauce during last 5 minutes.
Â
SWEET BARBEQUE SAUCE
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup molasses
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/8 teaspoon pepperIn a small saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil. Remove from the heat. Ready to serve.
(Especially good with barbequed hamburgers!)
