For Today…February 3, 2009
Outside my Window…it’s looking like spring today. On my way home from the middle school this afternoon, I saw my first three robins. The air, though cool, has that moist, earthy smell that means ‘spring.’
I am thinking…that February is a busy birthday month in our family. Daughter Kayla should arrive in just a bit for us to celebrate her 21st birthday. Don’t worry; her cake is in the oven, so it’s all good. My husband’s birthday is on Thursday, and then daughters Laura and Sarah have their birthdays next Wednesday. Happy days!
From the learning rooms…I made it back to school today, after being sick since last Thursday or Friday with a sore throat which morphed into a congested chest, and ended with lots of coughing. It was good to see all the students again.
I am thankful for…all of the dear children the Lord has given to us. Rick and I were ‘late’ to marry (29, which was older than most of our friends). I wondered at times if I would be blessed to be a mom, as I so much desired. One verse that I often think of with gratitude is Psalm 113:9:
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.
From the kitchen…I baked Kayla’s favorite cake, a traditional German Chocolate Cake. It’s the kind with the custard-y, coconutty topping and filling. Yum!
I am wearing…school clothes: red hooded sweater, black dressy skirt, black leggings and comfortable black shoes.
I am reading…The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Being Vegetarian because daughter Rebecca wants to try this in order to decrease her carbon footprint on our small planet.
I am hoping…to get more energy as I continue to recuperate. The whole family experienced this malaise; it’s my turn now.
I am creating…the most cherished birthday goody, a homemade cake.
I am hearing…dear granddaughter Carly complaining loudly that someone should come and pick her up, already!
Around the house…everyone is home from school, so there’s activity in every room. I have the door to the study closed so I can get this typed without too much distraction. Homework is getting done prior to the soon-to-happen birthday dinner and party.
One of my favorite things…is the companionable fellowship of my family.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…Rick’s birthday on Thursday. Also, my girls and I are going to a Brandi Carlisle concert on Friday!
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…
Hmmm….I thought this photo showed more of daughter Kayla (on the right), which I was intending, since it’s her birthday today. It will soon be daughter Laura’s birthday, though. 😛
Hostess Peggy says this about The Simple Woman’s Daybook:
Are you content to linger on the simple things of life…then join me in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those of us who are focusing on simplicity…the beauty of the everyday moments around us. That is my vision for this idea!
Sounds wonderful. I hope you enjoy your festive dinner. February is a busy time for you. 🙂
Hope your feeling all better soon.
Glad you’re on the mend…the cake sounds delicious and it sounds like you will have a few more cakes in the next few days. I am going to stay far, far away from the cake, chocolate, etc as I had my fill yesterday. HAHA. I had a candy bar on the way home from a meeting tonight as I was going into withdrawal! UGH!
Enjoy all the time with your family. 🙂
Take care of yourself!
