For Today…April 6, 2009
Outside my Window…it’s dark, since I’m posting so late, but today was just beautiful! It was a warm, blue-sky, no-sweater-required day. As I ran some errands this afternoon, I enjoyed seeing people of all ages – even some elderly folks pushing walkers – out soaking up the sunlight and warmth.
I am thinking…of Rebecca and Lydia as they will be touring Seattle Pacific University and Pacific Lutheran University tomorrow. Really, it’s one of Reb’s good friends who is considering those universities. Rebecca is leaning more towards our local (excellent) community college for two years, and then Eastern Washington University. She and I are planning to tour that campus very soon.
From the learning rooms…I’ve completed my training to administer the assessments of student learning which will begin next Monday at our middle school. We have to be ever so careful that we are cheerful without being academically helpful, so that we don’t inadvertently skew the students’ test results.
I am thankful for…feeling stronger each day after this latest flu. I’m starting to feel a bit hungry again. Lack of food is probably what caused the dizziness today. Maybe the ditziness, too.
From the kitchen…It’s been “catch-as-catch-can” around here. At least I baked homemade bread before becoming sick. I want to cook up some good, fresh veggies tomorrow. Those of us who were ill subsisted on chicken broth, cup-of-noodles and toast, when we were able to eat, so something fresh sounds perfect.
I am wearing…something I’ve worn before. Next warm-ish day I promise to list something different.
I am reading…I just finished reading The Toll-Gate by Georgette Heyer. Did you know that during her lifetime (1902-1974) she wrote 57 novels, yet never made a public appearance? I really enjoyed this mystery-adventure-romance. Mrs. Heyer’s writing is reminiscent of Jane Austen’s, at a more recreational reading level.
I am hoping…Rick and Seth have a safe, enjoyable time sailing tomorrow. They’re taking advantage of spring break, the lovely weather, and wind which is predicted to be from the direction they desire.
I am creating…this blog post.
I am hearing…The hum of my husband’s computer behind me, and the click of his mouse.
Around the house…Rick has been fighting an ongoing war against the wild blackberry vines that tend to encroach out here in the country if you don’t actively oppose them. The yard is looking good to me. Rick also ripped out some snowberry bushes that had gotten scraggly. As we strolled around the yard the other day, we believe we noticed at least one wild trillium coming up this year again, plus a patch of Oregon Grape is spreading (a good thing).
One of my favorite things…is companionable silence when you’re too tired for much else.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…Tomorrow Debra has a dental appointment. That’s another thing spring break is really good for. I must call the mechanic about scheduling repairs for our car tomorrow. Neatening up the house and paperwork are calling to me, too.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…
The deep pink azaleas are a gift from my dear mom and dad-in-law. The other lovely plants are from Rick, and will be tucked here and there in the garden beds when he gets home from sailing.
Hostess Peggy says this about The Simple Woman’s Daybook:
Are you content to linger on the simple things of life…then join me in taking a little look into the day plans and thoughts of those of us who are focusing on simplicity…the beauty of the everyday moments around us. That is my vision for this idea!
