For Today…November 3, 2008
Outside my Window…I see more leaves, mainly yellow and crispy brown, on the grass, even though we’ve been ‘raking’ them up with the mower attachment. Our fall winds have been at work, bringing them down. Some leaves still cling to the branches, and are gently trembling in a light breeze. Today has been a drizzly day, with misty clouds hugging the foothills.
I am thinking…that I’ll get up and start a load of laundry before I work any more on this post! OK! I did that.
From the learning rooms…I was so excited today when one of the eighth grade reluctant writers with whom I work handed me a rough draft of an informative piece he is writing on the Dust Bowl Disaster of the 1930s. We decided earlier that he would write a short historical fiction piece, and include a text box at the end giving pertinent facts. The thing that pleased me the most was that he did this work mainly on his own, and that he did quite a nice job!
I am thankful for…God’s sovereign and wise reign over all nations, at this present time. This is truly a mystery, understood only by faith. In 2 Chronicles 20:6, King Jehoshaphat of Judah cries to the Lord in a time of national disaster, ‘O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? And rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? And in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?’
From the kitchen…daughter Rebecca is baking banana muffins, to use up some bananas that got a bit too ripe. Yum! I’m informed that they turned out great, so will have to try one in a bit with a cup of coffee.
I am wearing…something I think I’ve mentioned before: Loose, multi-toned blue sweater with white long-sleeved blouse, and a long-ish black skirt with leggings under. It’s cool here, 40 degrees, breezy and damp, so I want to stay warm!
I am reading…(am going to read) a book I picked up from the library on my way home from school: Aunt Dimity Takes a Holiday by Nancy Atherton. This is my second Aunt Dimity book. I’m expecting a fun read, a combo of mystery, mild romance and a touch of make-believe.
I am hoping…son Seth’s first day of basketball practice is going well. I’ll pick him up at 5pm and hear all about it. At this point, the middle school coaches are scoping out the guys, trying to decide who will be on A team (the best 8th grade players), B team (the best 7th grade players) and C team (combined 7th and 8th grade team).
I am creating…hmm…a good dinner using ground beef tonight. I’ll see if the family wants:
- Chile
- Taco Salad, or
- Spaghetti
I am hearing…pandora.com, a selection of songs selected to fit my husband’s preferences. Currently we’re listening to Natalie MacMaster, a fiddler from Cape Breton. Wow, I like the next selection quite a bit, which is taken from the album ‘Pure Night Noise’, put out by an Irish group.
Around the house…The girls are going to fold some laundry in a bit. I fold the large items, such as towels and sheets, as I do the laundry, and leave all the nit-picky sorting and folding to my great gals.
One of my favorite things…is a busy, comfortable home, with everyone doing his or her part to make things nice.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…We have early release time (11:45am) the rest of this week at the Middle School for parent/student/teacher conferences. I go to Seth’s conference tomorrow afternoon, then take one of the girls to doctor appointments on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. I’m also hoping to get a little extra house cleaning done.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you…
This picture is from a recent ‘sunny day’ walk on the old dump road near here.
I always love reading your blog…you are the best…I always leave feeling so blessed. It is like the Lord has given me a present. Thank you!!
